Dragonpay has expanded its payment channels by introducing payments via BAYAD CENTER, an over-the-counter multiple bills payment collection center. Dragonpay’s clients can now pay in the nearest Bayad Center for their purchases from the latter’s partner merchants.
June 28, 2014 (MANILA, Philippines) – Dragonpay continues its expansion by adding more physical payment channels to its network this June 2014. The company signed up with BAYAD CENTER, the premier over-the-counter bills payment collection chain that operates throughout the Philippines. Through this partnership, consumers can now pay at the nearest Bayad Center outlet or partner for their Dragonpay purchases.
Bayad Center pioneered the over-the-counter bills payment service in 1997, spinning off from Corporate Information Solutions, Inc., the IT-arm of the Manila Electric Company (Meralco). With its aspirational goal of being present in every town in the country, Bayad Center transitioned into franchising early 2000.
“Bayad Center adds over 9,600 physical counters to our payment network including Robinsons Department Stores and Supermarkets, as well as multi-store chains like LBC, Philpost, Western Union outlets – eBiz, Petnet, USSC, and various pawnshops and rural banks,” says Robertson Chiang, Chief Operating Officer of Dragonpay. Payments made at Bayad Center outlets are posted to Dragonpay merchants in real-time.
Presently, about 25% of Dragonpay customers pay through payment centers such as convenience stores, pawnshops or remittance centers. Chiang added, “With the strong and trusted brand of Bayad Center, consumers will be more confident in purchasing online.“
Studies show that most Filipinos choose to pay their bills in brick-and-mortar outlets. With an estimated credit card penetration in the country at only 5%, and with only 20 to 25% of the population having bank accounts, alternative channels are expected to continue to grow and remain the main choice for payment for majority of consumers.
